PAX is building a system that brings transparency and efficiency to the charter buying process. The existence of a robust broker community is an indication that buying charter is complex, opaque and difficult. While there is angst about what brokers make on a transaction, customers would not pay the premium if they did not perceive value.
The industry is seeing change to address this (a move to "retail" sales): XOJET, JetSuite and TMC operate on one-way pricing and floating fleets models. Wheels Up is targeting charter customers that are considering fractional. SurfAir offers scheduled service at subscription pricing. Multiple websites and apps boast the selling of empty legs at deep discounts or free, typically claiming a plan to "kill the brokers" and sell charter at "wholesale" to the public.
While all of this sounds great, it ignores the facts. Charter has specific underlying cost of operations, and highly volatile sales price. In many instances, the operator takes the financial hit as costs stay constant and the price is discounted.
PAX objective is to help customers and operators negotiate the right price, taking into account all variables. The site currently provides customer focused tools. In March 2015 we will release the operator section, providing you the tools to see demand and bid on it efficiently.
